My purpose with this post is not to sell anyone anything;
it is to encourage you to think about taking up a hobby by seeing some benefits it can provide you.
For me, it’s a wonderful feeling and I know there is no drink or drug or food on earth
that makes me feel the way my crafting does.
Ok, so I did some very simple sewing as a little girl.
I made strapless dresses and matching handbags for my Barbie and
I remember making a blue and white polka dot summery poncho to go with
my outdated hand-me-down red and white striped swimsuit that had a solid white pleated skirt and a zipper up the back.
I think I was a teenager.
I began making jewelry early in 2000 something when a co-worker showed me
some lovely jewelry she made for her niece’s confirmation.
I was like WHAT??? Where did you get the beads and how did you learn??
On my day off, I went to a local bead store and went to town!!
When I first started making jewelry, it made my spirit soar!
People I worked with wanted me to make them personalized jewelry!
They even paid me to do it!
That was such an honor for me because they paid money for my work, and they wore MY PIECES!!!
And when I give someone something I have made by hand?
Like I said in my opening, it’s a wonderful feeling and
I know there is no drink or drug or food on earth that makes me feel the way my crafting does.
Making beaded jewelry using simple gemstones which astound me on their own, lifts my spirits.
PLUS, I control the colors and have made outfits based on different gemstones I love.
For example, I have these denims I love and wear a lot. They are off white, blue and black floral sorta off:
I fell in love with them because I have these beads I am making a set out of:
Here’s a close up on the earrings:
That is one example of the fun crafting can add to your life!
Here are some other pieces I have made over the years, this being polymer clay and using a cookie cutter:
Here’s a star I made using another cookie cutter, gold paint, a texture sheet to make the stars on the surface
and star beads for it to hang from:
I did another star to wear with blues, creams, and browns with ribbons and textured yarns:
You can get the polymer clay and cookie cutters from Walmart, either in person in the store or you can order them online. And there are oodles of art stores and craft supplies online!
This is a cell phone case I made using yarn and a button.
I made it up as I went:
Here are two wrap around bracelets I made using turquoise chips and sodalite beads:
This one is with glass beads and porcelain, I love how colorful it is!
I made these cuties for Halloween:
And these for Christmas:
PLUS, I crocheted a cellphone case using 2 strands of yarn and some Christmas colored beads:
I turned that into this:
Here’s another pair of Christmas Earrings I made with mitten beads:
Last but not least, because Halloween is NEVER over for me!!
There are kabillions of different hobbies and tons of how-to videos on YouTube!
What would you like to make?
Or, if you craft, how does it make you feel when you hold in your hand what you have made by hand
and what about when people compliment you on your work?
Again, for me, it makes my spirits soar! And when I give someone something I have made by hand?
I know I am repeating myself, but I cannot say this enough:
It is a wonderful feeling and I know there is no drink or drug or
food or anything self-medicating on this earth that makes me feel the way my crafting does.
